In Abuja, police operatives have arrested two sisters and a married couple for faking a kidnapping in an attempt to extort money from the girls’ parents. The case, which unfolded in Jikwoyi Phase II, involved a staged abduction and a ransom demand of five million naira.
Spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said the incident came to light after a father reported that his 16-year-old daughter had gone missing on her way to write an exam but later received a ransom call. Investigators quickly tracked the phone used for the call to a nearby residence, where the supposedly kidnapped girl was found safe and in relaxed company.
Further investigations revealed that the girl’s elder sister had conspired with her boyfriend to stage the fake kidnapping. Shockingly, the teenage girl was also fully aware and played along, pretending to be a victim while her family desperately tried to raise funds for her release.
All four individuals are now in custody and have confessed to the crime. Police say they will face prosecution after the investigation wraps up. Authorities are urging families to stay vigilant and foster open communication to prevent such troubling incidents.
