President Bola Tinubu has extended hearty congratulations to Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship. The team clinched a record fifth consecutive title and their seventh overall, defeating Mali 78–64 in a gripping final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Their latest triumph confirms their status as the continent’s most formidable side and reflects nearly a decade of consistency at the top.
President Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, unity, and determination, describing their success as a source of national pride and a powerful symbol of the Nigerian spirit. He also commended the leadership of Head Coach Rena Wakama and the vital role played by the Nigeria Basketball Federation in supporting the team’s journey.
Looking ahead, the President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting D’Tigress as they prepare for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers next March.
