The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMET, says most parts of the country should brace up for three days of unsettled weather beginning today, with thunderstorms and rain likely from the northern borders down to the coast. Storms were predicted to break out in the morning over Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina, then spread across the entire northern belt through Wednesday. Flash-flood alerts are in force for Adamawa, Taraba and Bauchi, where rainfall intensity could briefly overwhelm drainage.
Light but persistent showers are also on the cards for the Middle Belt as NiMET predicted that the Federal Capital Territory, Benue state, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa and Plateau states will witness patchy rain in the morning, turning more frequent later in the day and recurring on Tuesday.
Farther south, NiMET predicts that cloudy skies will dominate the outlook with light rain forecast for Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Lagos and adjoining states. The soggy pattern will linger through midweek, raising the risk of flash floods in Oyo, Ogun, Edo and Delta. Travelers and farmers nationwide should monitor local updates and plan around wetter-than-usual conditions.
