President Bola Tinubu has honored Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with a cash reward of $100,000, a flat each, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a special presidential reception held in Abuja to celebrate the team’s fifth consecutive continental title. The gesture reflects national appreciation for the team’s exceptional performance and unwavering dominance in African basketball.
The D’Tigress recently defeated Mali 78–64 in the final, extending their unbeaten run in the competition to 29 games and reinforcing their status as queens of African basketball. The reward package is seen as both recognition and motivation for continued excellence in global competitions.
The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu also praised the players, coaching crew, and the Nigeria Basketball Federation for their dedication and success.
