Enugu State Government Call For NIQ’s Support Infrastructure Development

The Enugu State Government has called on the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors to develop practical frameworks that will support both federal and state authorities in building transparent, competitive, and efficient procurement systems.

The appeal was made during a national workshop and induction ceremony held in the state capital.

Representing Governor Peter Mbah at the event, the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, emphasised the importance of cost control and value engineering in driving Nigeria’s infrastructural and economic development.

The government said institutions like the NIQS are vital to ensuring infrastructure investments remain cost-effective, resilient, and aligned with national growth targets.

The workshop, which focused on standardizing procurement processes using the Nigerian Bureau of Public Procurement’s Standard Bidding Documents, was described as timely and the organizers noted it aligns with ongoing national efforts to strengthen transparency and also improve governance through results-based project management and elimination of leakages.

Onyia said the state governance model emphasises budget transparency, performance-based financing, and a commitment to value-driven outcomes. The administration expressed readiness to host more strategic professional dialogues to foster innovation and national development.
