FG To Partner Governors, Developers On Affordable Housing

The Federal Government has announced plans to work closely with state governments, private developers, and development partners to make homeownership more accessible across Nigeria.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, who revealed the initiative while opening the 19th Africa International Housing Show in Abuja, said the project supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to reduce Nigeria’s housing shortage through bold and inclusive reforms.

The Minister said the government is going to have Housing Reform Champions in each state, organise roundtable talks on housing, and directly support states in planning and financing viable housing projects. Dangiwa pointed out that affordability remains the biggest challenge when it comes to owning a home on the continent.

He added that millions of families across Africa still cannot afford decent homes, even when they are available and the Tinubu administration is not just building houses but also fixing the deeper economic and policy issues that make housing expensive in the first place.

The Minister called on banks, donor organisations, and private investors to work hand-in-hand with the government and turn ideas into real, on-the-ground progress for Nigerians, reemphasising that housing is not a luxury but a right and the government’s investment in housing is an investment in the people, their jobs, cities, and shared future.
