Twenty-nine years ago, a young and fearless lawyer, Emmanuel Ogebe, risked everything to stand for justice. He wrote a bold letter to Gen. Sani Abacha condemning the brutal murder of Kudirat Abiola. For his courage, he was arrested, tortured within the walls of Aso Rock, and forced into exile in the United States.
On July 27, 2025, destiny came full circle. Ogebe returned to that very State House—not in chains, but crowned in honor—receiving one of Nigeria’s highest national awards for citizens in the diaspora. Amb. Bianca Onoh presented the award, as Abike Dabiri looked on in admiration.
Today, the Middle Belt, Benue, and Idoma land celebrate a son whose life is a masterclass in courage, resilience, and unwavering integrity. Ogebe’s journey from a prisoner of conscience to a national honoree is proof that truth never dies, and justice always prevails.
💫 Barrister Emmanuel Ogebe is more than a hero—he is a symbol of hope, a voice for the voiceless, and a role model for every Nigerian who dreams of a country where courage is rewarded and tyranny never wins.
